When people ask me what I do, I usually respond by saying that I build digital systems to maximize value for humans while maximizing profit for businesses. And I teach others how to do it. Because I fundamentally believe that experience-led design can improve people’s lives and transform companies.

Coming from the world of mechanical engineering, industrial design and systems thinking, I embraced all things digital in the mid-’90s, especially the innovative co-creation methodologies and immersive empathy native to IDEO's school of design thinking. Since then, I've helped--
- re-imagine how medical professionals could quickly locate vital answers among terabytes of specialized data in the professional digital libraries (WebMD/Medscape);
- transform a trend tracking application to make grant research faster and more productive to instantly access and analyze the financial data of the 20,000 U.S.’s largest foundations (Foundation Center);
- prototype and build a next-generation graduate school application & evaluation system to reduce cognitive load on faculty and applicants (Brainroll);
- envision how to make available an agricultural “Library in a Box” for the developing world without a broadband connection (Cornell University / TEEAL);
- form a global open database of the impact ecosystem that tracks investments in solutions to environmental and social challenges (ImpactAlpha / ImpactSpace);
- re-structure a wayfinding system for engineers and technicians to navigate thousands of pages of procedures, technical drawings, and diagrams on a company extranet to provide better service to their customers (Otis Elevator); and
- shape effective omnichannel e-commerce experiences for B2B and consumer brands (Intel, Nestle Starbucks, Tabasco) and much, much more.
